What is Reserved Capacity?
Reserved Capacity is a 6- or 12-month commitment to a block of engineering capacity, measured in engineer-months per quarter and level band, rather than to named people. You draw it down as roles: a backend engineer this quarter, a DevOps engineer next, an AI engineer after that, on the same contract and at the same rate.
In return for the commitment you get a reserved rate below on-demand, fixed for the term, first access to DevKit's vetted engineers, and a start within 5 business days for any role inside the reservation. Unused capacity rolls over one quarter. Anything beyond the reservation is billed on-demand, on the same terms and with the same people.
For large organisations, Reserved Capacity is enterprise IT staffing with the predictability of an annual agreement: engineering capacity as a service, delivered through staff augmentation, dedicated teams or a mix of both, with one accountable vendor instead of a dozen contracts.
Best for
- Organisations with a hiring freeze and a roadmap that did not freeze
- Teams that negotiate a new contract for every role and face yearly rate increases
- Finance teams that want engineering spend as one predictable annual line
- Groups that shift skills between teams and quarters and do not want penalties for it
Why reserve instead of hiring role by role
The same engineers and guarantees as every DevKit engagement, with the commitment, rate and speed of a reservation.
No headcount, no freeze
Capacity comes from the contractor budget, not from new full-time roles, so a hiring freeze does not stop the roadmap.
A rate that holds for the whole term
The reserved rate is below on-demand and fixed for the term. No mid-term increases, no new negotiation for each role.
Skills change, the contract does not
Swap a backend engineer for a DevOps or AI engineer inside the reservation. One master agreement covers every role.
Five business days to start
DevKit keeps vetted engineers ready for reserved clients. A role inside the reservation starts within 5 business days, instead of 2–3 weeks.
Capacity you do not lose
Unused capacity rolls over one quarter, and prepaid amounts can be used for any DevKit service for 24 months.
One line in the budget
One annual commitment, one monthly invoice, and internal chargeback by business unit if you want it. Finance sees one number.
Reserved vs on-demand
Both run on the same engineers and the same guarantees. The reservation changes the commitment, the rate and the speed.
| Reserved Capacity | On-demand | |
|---|---|---|
| Commitment | 6 or 12 months of capacity, drawn down quarterly | Monthly, per engineer |
| Monthly rate | Reserved rate below on-demand, fixed for the term | Standard rate per engineer, shown on each CV |
| Time to start | Within 5 business days for roles inside the reservation | CVs in 3–5 business days; start in 2–3 weeks |
| Changing skills | Swap inside the reservation, same contract | New request for each role |
| Unused capacity | Rolls over one quarter | Not applicable |
| Bench priority | First access to DevKit's vetted engineers | Standard allocation |
| Extra needs | Billed at the on-demand rate on the same contract | Billed monthly |
| If it is not a fit | Free replacement with handover | Free replacement with handover |
| Scaling down | Reduce next quarter's draw-down; the reservation stays | End with notice, no lock-in |
Enterprise-ready by design
Built for procurement, security, finance and delivery leaders who need a staffing partner that fits enterprise processes, not just a list of CVs.
Procurement and vendor onboarding
A vendor-onboarding kit from day one: completed security questionnaire, data processing agreement, insurance certificates and registration in your vendor management system. A pilot can be sized under your procurement threshold.
Security and compliance
NDA before any details are shared, full IP transfer, GDPR-compliant processing with an EU contracting entity, and background-checked engineers on request. Your security policies apply to our engineers as they do to your own.
One master agreement
One enterprise agreement with DevKit Agency LLC (US) or DevKit Agency OÜ (EU) covers every role, team and quarter. No separate contract per engineer, no contractor classification risk on your side.
Governance and reporting
A monthly capacity report shows draw-down by team, role and level, with chargeback by business unit if you need it. Quarterly reviews adjust the reservation to the roadmap.
Business continuity
Free replacement with handover, senior engineers behind every placement and capacity kept ready for reserved clients, so a resignation or a new project does not stall delivery.
Scale across teams and regions
Reserve capacity for several teams and business units under one agreement, with engineers working in hours that overlap Europe and the US East Coast.
What every reservation includes
The same standard as every DevKit engagement, written into the master agreement.
Vetted by senior engineers
Every engineer passes a technical interview with DevKit's senior engineers before you see a CV.
Senior backing after day one
Senior engineers and tech leads back every placement with code reviews and advice on hard problems.
Free replacement
If an engineer is not the right fit, we replace them at no extra cost and handle the handover, at any point.
One contract, NDA and full IP
One master agreement with DevKit Agency LLC (US) or DevKit Agency OÜ (EU). NDA and full IP transfer as standard; GDPR-compliant.
Payroll and compliance handled
DevKit handles payroll, taxes and contractor compliance. You never contract with individual engineers.
AI-assisted, human-reviewed
Engineers work with AI coding assistants, with human review on every change, in hours that overlap Europe and the US East Coast.
Where enterprises use Reserved Capacity
Typical programmes that need flexible engineering capacity for months, not a single hire.
AI and data initiatives
AI engineers, ML engineers and data engineers for LLM features, agents, RAG and data platforms, without competing for scarce full-time AI hires.
Platform and cloud modernisation
Backend, DevOps and cloud engineers for migrations, re-platforming and infrastructure work that runs over several quarters.
Legacy systems and key-person risk
Engineers who learn and support business-critical systems, so delivery does not depend on one or two internal people.
Multi-team product programmes
Capacity shared across squads and business units, shifted quarter by quarter as priorities change.
Peaks and deadlines
Extra capacity for launches, regulatory deadlines or seasonal peaks, scaled back down next quarter without penalties.
Vendor consolidation
Replace a patchwork of freelancers, agencies and contractors with one enterprise IT staffing partner, one rate card and one invoice.
How Reserved Capacity works
From sizing call to the first engineer in about two weeks. After that, five business days per role.
Week 1
Size the reservation
A 30-minute call to map the next 6 or 12 months: engineer-months per quarter and the level bands. DevKit proposes a reservation and the reserved rate.
Week 1–2
Sign one master agreement
With DevKit Agency LLC or DevKit Agency OÜ. The vendor-onboarding kit comes with it: security questionnaire, data processing agreement, insurance certificates and vendor-system registration.
Each role
Draw down
A role request names the skill and level. A vetted engineer starts within 5 business days. You interview first if you want to.
Each quarter
Adjust
Swap skills, shift capacity between teams and roll unused capacity forward once.
End of term
Renew or convert
Renew the reservation, move to on-demand, or hire engineers in-house through DevKit's tech recruitment.
Terms and guardrails
The terms that keep the offer honest for both sides.
Minimum reservation
A minimum number of engineer-months per quarter, agreed at sizing. Start with a one-quarter pilot or a 6-month term if you want to see it work first.
Swaps
Swaps happen within the reserved level band. Moving a role up a band is billed at the difference.
Rollover and prepayment
Unused capacity carries into the next quarter once, then expires. Prepaid amounts are not refundable, but can be used for any DevKit service for 24 months.
Start service level
If DevKit misses the 5-business-day start for a role inside the reservation, you receive a service credit.
Realistic requests
DevKit may decline a request that is not realistic for the reserved band (rate, level or stack). The capacity stays reserved.
Scaling down
You can reduce next quarter's draw-down at any time. The reservation itself runs for its full term of 6 or 12 months.
Reserved Capacity: FAQ
Is Reserved Capacity a retainer?
No. A retainer buys availability; a reservation buys capacity that is delivered as working engineers on your team. The commitment earns a lower rate, a faster start and rollover, and every engineer comes with the same vetting, senior backing and free replacement as any DevKit engagement.
What happens if we do not use all the capacity?
Unused capacity rolls over into the next quarter once. Prepaid amounts are not refundable, but they can be used for any DevKit service, including dedicated teams, tech recruitment and advisory, for 24 months.
Can we start small?
Yes. Most organisations start with a one-quarter pilot sized under their procurement threshold, with the master agreement ready for the 6- or 12-month version. The vendor-onboarding kit is supplied up front to keep procurement short.
Can we hire the engineers in-house later?
Yes. At any renewal point you can move an engineer to your payroll through DevKit's tech recruitment, with a one-time fee per successful hire.
Who are the engineers?
Engineers from DevKit's own team and private network: senior people who are hard to find and rarely on job boards. Every one of them passes a technical interview with DevKit's senior engineers before you see a CV. DevKit has placed 300+ engineers since 2022 and is rated 5.0 on Clutch.
Is DevKit an enterprise IT staffing provider?
Yes. DevKit provides enterprise staff augmentation, dedicated development teams and tech recruitment for large organisations in the US and Europe, under one master agreement with a US or EU entity. Reserved Capacity is the enterprise agreement model: capacity reserved for 6 or 12 months at a fixed reserved rate.
Does Reserved Capacity work with our vendor management system and procurement process?
Yes. DevKit registers in your vendor management system, completes your security questionnaire and signs your data processing agreement as part of onboarding. Most enterprises start with a one-quarter pilot sized under their procurement threshold, then move to the full reservation.
How does Reserved Capacity compare with a large consultancy or managed service provider?
A consultancy sells a statement of work and manages the delivery; you buy an outcome and give up control of the team. Reserved Capacity gives you vetted engineers who work inside your teams and processes, at a reserved rate, with the flexibility to swap skills each quarter. It is the better fit when you want to own the roadmap and the code.
